Chamberlin received an invitation from FCI to join the design and construction team for the River Valley Family Health Centers (RVFHC) project. RVFHC is a federally qualified health center organization that offers affordable healthcare services to residents in the Montrose, Delta, and Olathe regions of Colorado's Western Slope.

The design for the new facility in Delta, CO encompassed various components, including an urgent care clinic with 5 exam rooms, 1 procedure room, and 1 behavioral health room; a medical clinic with 11 exam rooms, 1 procedure room, and 3 behavioral health rooms; a dental clinic featuring 7 dental operatories; a pharmacy; and administrative space.

The project faced multiple challenges, notably due to its initiation during the COVID-19 pandemic, characterized by economic uncertainties, soaring material costs, extended lead times, and supply shortages. Collaborative efforts with FCI's estimating team led to several value engineering redesigns aimed at aligning the project with the Owner's budget while preserving the required functional spaces. This necessitated a focused approach to architectural design, with a shift toward a more utilitarian exterior design, including the adoption of wood-framed construction, replacement of clerestories with tubular daylighting devices, altering roof materials, and employing cost-effective finishes.

The objective for the main entryway was to create an inviting visual element that signifies the point of arrival. The canopy structure slopes upward towards the south, allowing natural light to enhance the waiting area, fostering an open and inviting atmosphere. The exposed wood timbers and wood decking enhances the welcoming ambiance. Adhered stone elements were judiciously incorporated, with windows arranged irregularly to pay homage to the Puebloan architecture of the Southwest.
