A remodeled Convention Center generates a ‘wow’ factor for those attending meetings, conventions, or special events.

The city of Grand Junction selected Chamberlin Architects to remodel a cherished downtown hospitality icon.  Modernized interior finishes brought new life to the ballroom, entry lobby, main corridor, and restrooms. Under the surface, mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems, were updated improving not only the functionality of the convention center but also the longevity of the historic facility.

The ballroom remodel, incorporated clerestory rows of windows for improved daylight, ceiling beam baffles in a faux cherry-wood finish for warmth, and dimmable pendant lights were installed to create a magical glow. Two operable walls were designed to easily divide the space to accommodate smaller venues.

Adding an elevator accomplished a much-needed accessibility upgrade. The addition bumped out the building’s north façade that was modernized with blue metal siding, multiple colors of glazing, and colorful banners. A gray concrete wall running parallel to the north sidewalk provided an ideal space for public art. An abstraction of the Grand Valley topography was painted as a colorful mural to further enliven the exterior and engage pedestrians.

This now thriving updated public facility is a popular destination for expos, conferences, banquets, concerts, conventions, and performances. For The Two Rivers Convention Center schedule of events, click here.
