Glacier National Park – Polebridge Redevelopment

Glacier National Park, Montana

This project included construction of a new visitor contact/entrance station, fire cache, four-bedroom dormitory, generator building, and flammable storage buildings for a total of 15,000 sf. The log and stone structures, constructed in a fire damaged area, are designed to harmonize with nearby homesteads and other Park facilities.

To respect the “homestead” scale and character of the North Fork Valley vernacular architecture, the buildings were grouped as a compound and modestly detailed using hand-hewn native materials.  Multi-colored rounded river stones matching those found in the adjacent riverbed were used at the base of the buildings, with log construction above.
