Hill City Visitor Center
Hill City, South Dakota
Originally built and occupied by the Forest Service as a ranger station, this 3,000 sf building in the Black Hills was sold to the Town which leases 1,800 sf to Chamber of Commerce for a visitor center.
During the remodel, a new exterior color palette was applied, the roof, fascia and soffit were replaced, and the building was painted and stained. On the interior, the rear entry and public restrooms were remodeled for 24-hour visitor use, and a small office was constructed for the Pennington County Sheriff’s Department.
The visitor center space was strategically updated with minimal demolition of existing walls to keep cost down. Pine board wall finishes give the interior its Black Hills charm, while low voltage track lighting provides a modern touch.
