St. Benedict’s Place – for Grand Valley Catholic Outreach
Grand Junction, Colorado
St. Benedict’s Place provides permanent housing with dignity and respect to persons who have been homeless for a long period of time. It is a complex of three, two-story structures consisting of twenty-two (22) 500 sf apartments, each with a private balcony or patio. One building contains an office and a two bedroom, two-bath apartment for a full time on-site manager who oversees the housing complex.
An important aspect of the site design was to save several existing trees which contribute shade and ambiance to the communal courtyards adjacent to each building. The buildings are designed to reflect the scale and architectural detailing of the surrounding historic residential neighborhood.
