This new ambulance headquarters is located directly across from Aspen Valley Hospital. This new facility is three times the size of the previous headquarters.

Chamberlin took the lead to navigate through an ‘only-in-Aspen’ entitlements process. This included deftly fitting the large structure onto the tight site; facilitating a public meeting to select the exterior (designed by Associate Architect Studio B) from four options presented; and neatly addressing restrictions on building height. Neighbor concerns about visible mechanical equipment were successfully addressed by bringing all equipment inside the building and implementing meticulous acoustic separation.

The program includes four apparatus bays, two first responder bays, four paramedic bunk rooms, a kitchen and day room, administrative offices, training room, and a fitness space. While the exterior complies with land use requirements for horizontal proportions and the colors and materials met with approval from the adjacent residential neighborhood, the shed roof and windows add a modern touch.
