One challenge of this project was to make the building blend into the desert landscape so that it appears to have been there for years. With no natural vegetation on site, the only way to accomplish this goal was to mold the topography by arranging previously excavated rock to look like natural outcroppings. To achieve the correct color of the exterior block, a sample of the local earth was sent to the block manufacturer. The gray block accent color was expected to take on the tone of the natural landscape color as it became coated with wind-blown dust.
